Nightpool

Wandering a mostly empty resort at night

Stepping in and out of the pool

The water is warm and dark in the night

There is nothing to do

But enjoy the lanterns

And half dry wooden patio furniture

People quietly smile at you as they walk by

They are serene I imagine

I am serene too

But that part of me is a degree away from where I stand

Inside something is missing

Inside I almost drown a few times a day

But I find that wherever I am drowning is not too deep

Or maybe I’ve grown taller

Than when it drowned me before

Oh brother where art thou

We had the same origin story

How did we diverge like this
