There’s a vast emptiness inside me
Inside my heart
That I have tried to fill
With other people and things and more things
But this solitude
This quiet home
This airport runway at dusk
These empty parking lots at night
These walks along dusty quiet roads
These are places where I go
To exist
I need a place that minds can’t reach
Again you reach into my solitude
Without knowing what you seek
The best gift I can give you friend
Is distance
Don’t you realize?
We’ve never been close
Brothers, lovers, fathers, men
You never really knew me
