The drums sound in the distance
I hear from my room
I know that this is you
Preparing for battle
Nervous and excited
To prove yourself
The stray cat visits the house
He hears my approach and runs away
Only to sit at the front door the next day
You are curious,
Come closer,
Startled, you run away
And return the next morning.
The lazy dog comes to my porch
Looking for sausages
Drunkenly you wander to my house
And I prepare for you a meal
You already know the dog’s purpose
You are not surprised to know why the flowers bloom
Next to my seat
Yellow trumpets
I ask and you respond
You tell me not to doubt
You always cry
With constant sorrow
The jungle always rains
But it cries with joy
At my return
The vines reach out
To touch me
As I reach my arm out of the bus window
You go with me everywhere the road goes
