Outside the plane window
City lights form stars below
In shapes more organized than
Guanacaste hills
I’m sitting close to first class
I thought about how
some rich people want to be famous
And some don’t
And wanting to be seen or hidden
Doesn’t make much of a difference
So you can keep
Your secret middle-school crush embarrassment
You come and go high over my head
Flying to the highest tower
Of your castle
Built stone by stone
On disappointment
And bitterness
I’m too young to know
You say
What the scars on your hands mean
Even your voice
Only speaks from the tops of mountains
Between the clouds
Your mask of mystery
No one can grasp
I happen to know this story
The myth of Icarus
How his son flew too close to the sun
I’ve seen the same fire in the eyes young men
Ambitious and reckless and godly
in this beach town
Changing too fast
Even Heroes make mistakes
And destroy street lights
Accuse the wrong man
Then run far, far away
Once or twice you trespass
On my difficult places
Streets with no names
I swore it would never happen again
So I only open when you close
Dance in the empty streets
while you sleep
And I never see the dark side of your face
Like the moon of Pluto
That spins on the same axis as her
you sit in your prison
Forgetting what you were waiting for
Was it me?
Close the door of your room again
Not yet, not yet
I was only a guest in your house of discontent
Not a spy in the house of love
But even in the empty space
And miles of doubt
Between us
five leaf clovers and
Left handed people
one in a billion
spinning atoms
I somehow find
that you and I
collide
