Eternity

I cried on the car ride home from the hospital

I thought if you died I want to die too

But I shouldn’t, for my parents

I can’t think of a more powerful thing a human can do than to choose something forever with certainty

And I experienced those moments

I remember the look in your eyes when we couldn’t say the words goodbye

When I wasn’t sure I would see you again

But whether the future leads to death or life, it was the one and the same eternity
